Costume Reference ...
I have access to the stock at UFV and I'm certain I could pull much of our 80's clothing from there. Some altering might be needed. Most of the characters will have a costume change in act 2.
The main work for this show is going to be Nanabush. He has several costume changes one where he must transform from a Bingo Caller into the Trickster onstage. Nanabush is an influence of traditional regalia and bird like elements for act one. He is a spirit , also a comedian and mystic so his costume will be a real mix. When we move to the Bingo in Toronto he has a very quick change into the bingo costume and must change out of it on stage too. I'm thinking a 3 piece suit with a faux vest or something.
He will have some kind of headdress with feathers and or birds on it. I am budgeting about $4-500 for his costumes alone as there will be leather involved. His drawings are currently being worked on.

Pelajia Patchnose, 50's - she wears work cloths for most of the play, top of show she is in a tool belt, plaid shirt, jeans or overalls, and somekind of head covering. I don't want to use a ball cap. what do we think of 80's tinted glasses [at left], I could see her making a costume change when we go to Bingo. May something more dated like this polyester gem on the right or maybe she just puts a nicer sweater vest over her plaid shirt and thats what we call "dressed for the city"
Emily Dictionary 30's - some kind of 80's hair. [not as crazy as the above but the spike look might work depending on the actor.] Leather jacket[notice the shoulders, oh so 80's] , jeans, belt buckle. I like the tank and necklace, hoop earrings?, makeup on both pics to the right is a great look for an '80's biker chick'
Marie-Adele- 30's - has 14 kids with Eugene, has cancer has tests in toronto. I really like the dress and hair in the centre photo. I also like the idea of her being in a sweater of some sort. Something she can wrap herself in to physicalize her illness. not much jewelry other then a wedding ring and maybe a bead necklace or something. I like the hair here too.
Annie Cook -30's - I really want a contrast between Annie and Marie-Adele's costume to highlight the sister's history. Annie is a singer at night and is a dreamer. She lost her love Eugene to Marie-Adele who settled down and now has a huge family with him. I don't know if we need to go as far as the belly showing [might be a little young for the age] but maybe we like that too.
